Greetings from the great white north!
This morning we woke up to blizzard conditions (again!) and a fresh coat of snow!
It’s definitely gorgeous now, but I’m sure the next few days are going to be a mess, not to mention all this snow accumulation is really limiting where we can run outside!
So, all these snow days have given me some time to catch up on my reading (that and I’ve finally convinced Jason to alternate between watching TV before bed and reading…I HATE watching TV in bed!).
I recently finished both Stronger, the story of Boston Marathon survivor Jeff Bauman and Meb Keflezigi’s book, Run to Overcome and it got me wondering if you guys would be interested in short book reviews/ recommendations – let me know! I love reading (especially running related books!) and am always looking for recommendations so feel free to share your favorites!
Stay warm and just keep running!

Jason and I wanted to get in a few miles outside before this next blizzard arrived! Glad we did because who knows where we’ll run with all this new snow on the ground now!
Saturday – 4 mile run & 1 hour yoga class

I’m really trying to learn to tolerate the treadmill…I’m not a fan, but with all this snow we’re going to have to be friends I think…
Sunday – 2 mile run
Plank – :58
Decided to head out for a couple of miles after the snow stopped to check out the neighborhood after the blizzard! These YakTrax are sure getting a lot of use this winter!
Weekly Mileage – 17 miles

OVERALL
I’ve been pretty good about keeping up with my February plank-a-day! I do find that I am still struggling to hold it though, and only because my lower back really starts to hurt!
I had someone take some pictures so I could see my form and I think it looks ok…pretty sure the problem may be an old lower back injury. There are some things that just bother it!
My friend Megan suggested that instead of holding for a long period of time, it may be best to just do several planks for a shorter amount of time which is what I think I am going to do moving forward.
I’m disappointed that I haven’t done a run longer than 4 miles in a couple of weeks, but between it not being easy to find places to run outside and my tolerance for the treadmill maxing out at about 4 miles I guess it is what it is! Hopefully I’ll be able to get a little longer in this weekend since Jason and I are registered to do a 10k in a couple of weeks!
Madison “Dachs-ing” through the snow!
Oh I have done some ridiculous long runs on the treadmill, and I my recent cruise I ran a total of 45 miles on treadmills. Crazy, but I needed to keep up with my training plan. I love reading too and read Meb’s book Run to Overcome. I’m now rereading Boston 26.2 to get ready for April. I also just purchased A Race Like No Other about NYC marathon. The snow really has been horrible for everyone in the NE and my sister is going crazy no being able to run outside!
So amazing that you stuck to your training plan so well while on vacation, you are going to do amazing in Boston!
I absolutely love the footprints on the beach…. you should def. submit that for a runners photo contest. Would love to have an original as a screen saver.
love..dad
I’ll e-mail it to you : )
I’ve done 8 on the treadmill but I had to take a break every 2 AND watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I have a mostly hate relationship with it, but I am VERY grateful to have it when its raining, super hot and humid or if I can’t take the twins with me.
I think part of the problem is that I never really had access to a treadmill so since I started running I’ve barely ever used one…I’m trying to “warm” up to it though since I work at a gym now and the weather’s made it so difficult to run outside!
I love your pictures today! My favorite is the picture of the snow/sand footprints, but the one of your dog is really great too!!! I would definitely be interested in running related book reviews! I see you use YakTrax for the snow, but do you do anything to waterproof your shoes too? p.s. I’m currently pretending to like the treadmill too. Spring can’t come soon enough :c)
No, I actually don’t do anything to waterproof my shoes, never thought of it actually! I use an older pair of sneakers for any gross winter running (sand/salt/slush), typically unless I end up in really deep snow my feet don’t end up wet though.
Honestly girl, at this this point I’d love to be able to run ANYTHING on a treadmill right now!
Oh Kim…I’m sorry, you’re totally right, I should be grateful I’m able to run at all right now!
The longest I’ve gone on a treadmill is 8 miles, and it wasn’t totally awful other than some intense underarm chafeage. The snow you guys have been getting is unbelievable–it’s so weird that we haven’t been getting as much here in VT. Hopefully things clear out soon and you can get back on the roads!
I made it up to 5 miles on the treadmill, maybe one day I’ll manage to get to 8!
