Weekly Training Recap & February Plank-a-Day!

I have to admit that I’ve never been very good at doing any sort of strength training and I’d really like to change that.  Even just a little bit each day can really add up which is why I’ve decided I’m going to challenge myself to do a plank-a-day for February!

I’m usually not very good at sticking to these type of monthly challenges, so yesterday I sent out this tweet hoping some friends would join me:

Plank a Day

I quickly had several friends agree to join me via Twitter & Facebook!

So, starting today, I’ll be doing a plank-a-day and holding it for as long as I can!  I’ve printed out a February calendar to track how long I hold it each day.

If you’d like to join leave a comment letting me know along with your Twitter handle – we’ll be checking in daily via Twitter!

OVERALL

Pretty happy with getting in over 80 miles in January (granted the Goofy Challenge accounted for almost half of that!).

Jason and I have been enjoying running and exploring in the snow (which we’re apparently getting more of tomorrow!).  We’ve been looking into some spring half marathons and hopefully we’ll choose one soon so we can start training!

I’m also still debating a spring full marathon…hmmm…

What’s your favorite strength training exercise?

Anyone else enjoying some snowy runs?

  1. My favorite strength training exercise is probably squats and lunges, but I’m really starting to enjoy the benefits (not the process) of push-ups. And since I live in Charlotte, NC – no snowy runs for me. Just a bit cold, but not too bad. I have only ran in the snow once – and it wasn’t sticking!

  2. Wow, I’m still getting used to running in weather below 30F, so your snow running looks pretty badass! My favorite strength exercise has to be squats with various weights and squat holds, it burns so good.

    • I was a little skeptical about how much the YakTrax would help, but I have to admit I think they are well worth it and I’m glad I bought them! The running version was $40 for a pair and I figure they’ll last me for years, I’d definitely recommend them!

  3. I should probably do that plank a day thing…and the push-up challenge…and the burpee challenge. Damn that’s a lot of challenges. Good for you! Although you’re ridiculously strong already…

Why does the snow seem so much prettier by you?

    • Haha, first of all, the snow looks prettier by me because I took those pictures before it started getting all melty and slushy and turned brown and gross.

Second, I really need to start doing more of these challenges – let’s do it!

  4. Hope you enjoy your new YakTrax! I love mine. Count me in for the Plank-A-Day-Party! I’ve been doing 3 planks (side, front, side) 3 times a week. But I’m SO bad at them, it would definitely behoove me to do them every day. Add me to the list! And your snow beach picture makes me want to move to Rhode Island STAT!

    • Yeah, my planks could use some work – hopefully by the end of the month I’ll see some improvement! And isn’t snow on the beach just so pretty! There’s something so contradictory about it but it’s beautiful!

Leave a Thought!
