Wow has life been busy since Jason and I moved to Cape Cod!
I’ve been meaning to write a post to share a little bit about my job up here since I started last week and I just haven’t even been able to find the time to!
As I mentioned in a previous post, this summer Jason and I really felt like we needed a change. We’ve been ready to leave New York for awhile and while sitting on the beach on Cape Cod this summer we decided if one of us could find a job up here by the end of the summer we’d stay!
Well, I don’t think either of us really thought there was a chance of that happening, but within 4 days of that conversation I was offered a job!
So, what is this job??
Well yesterday I found an old description they had posted of the job where they described what they were looking for as “the best combination wedding planner/ beach party host/ triathlete” (seriously, who wouldn’t want that job, right?!?).
Well, apparently wedding planner/ beach party host/ triathlete = Event Manager at the Buzzards Bay Coalition!
The Buzzards Bay Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring clean water and the restoration and protection of Buzzards Bay, an estuary located in Southeastern Massachusetts.
My job specifically is to produce their major fundraising events:
So, pretty much right up my alley!
Our office is in an amazingly restored old building in the historic New Bedford whaling district…
…is surrounded by adorable cobblestone streets and beautiful old buildings with amazing stories…
…and we’re right across from the harbor!
Since I’m not all that familiar with the Bay and the Coalition’s mission, I’ve been taking the opportunity to take some little field trips to familiarize myself with some of our conservation land…
…and some of the uses of the Bay itself – like quahogging!
I’m quickly learning that the Coalition is doing some amazing work and I’m excited to learn more about everything the education, conservation and advocacy branches of the organization are working on!
I know some of you may be thinking, “wait, wasn’t Danielle going back to school??”
Yup. I had been taking pre-requisite classes towards eventually applying to a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program and while that plan isn’t completely off the table, I decided Jason and I moving out a New York to someplace we’d be happier really was the priority. I plan on taking a class a semester still and we’ll see how it goes!
Maybe I’ll really love this job and realize that I’m happy doing event management.
Maybe I’ll keep working on the pre-reqs and when I’m done with them I’ll still apply to PT programs.
I really have no idea how it’ll turn out, but I know we’re happy to be living on Cape Cod and that’s what matters right now!
So, how many readers do I have that are open water swimmers and cyclists that I can convince to take a trip out to Cape Cod for one of my events?!?

Too bad I don’t know any swimmers to come do the swim event ; )

Well-played, Danielle. Maybe…. 🙂

Sounds like a little bit of everything. I love the section of town you work in, it’s definitely very New England.

It’s VERY New England! I can’t wait until I have some time to explore the area a little more – there’s a whaling museum and lots of really cute shops and restaurants!

That’s so awesome! I’m still so jealous that you were able to move to wear you love!
And I would totally be down for a cycling thing…except I’m pretty sure either my bike tires, or my legs would fall off before 75 miles 🙂
By kebe51 on September 19, 2014 at 8:16 AM
There’s actually a 35-mile option too : )
And I’m secretly hoping they decide on a running event for their TBD one!

That is exceptional. My husband and I talk about moving to the cape all the time. I so wish we could make it happen!

Honestly, we never thought we’d live here before we retired or something and then we kind of kept saying to ourselves “that’s so silly, why are we living somewhere we hate and looking forward to moving in 30 years?!?”

I’m envisioning an offic

oh crap.. AN OFFICIAL NARDI CHALLENGE!
By Nicole @ pink elephant on parade on September 19, 2014 at 9:04 AM
Haha, you in? ; )
Hmmm…maybe we should consider a rowing event…
By dnardi710 on September 19, 2014 at 10:27 AM
This is so cool! You should organize a running event, and then I’ll definitely come 😉

I would love for our next event to be running! I get the feeling they thing the market is over saturated with running/ walking fundraising events so they’re looking for something different, but we’ll see!

I can’t even read this I am so jealous!! I really need to get myself together and get a job like this! Also, Triathlons have been on my mind alot recently.. much research and training is needed, but who knows Cape Cod could only be a few years away!!
By veryrach on September 19, 2014 at 9:29 AM
In all honestly I don’t think I gave the whole triathlon thing a fair chance. I didn’t really love either of the 2 I did, but at the same time I really didn’t train enough for the bike or swim so it’s my own fault. Maybe now that my job entails a bike & swim event I’ll get more into it! (You know…for research! : )
I found this job totally unexpectedly…just keep looking and you never know what you may find!

This sounds really perfect for you, and those pictures look lovely! The only time I’ve ever been to Cape Cod was when my parents took me as an infant, so obviously I have no memories of the place, but I’d really love to come see it sometime!

There are lots of great races around here! I think you, Nicole and Kellie need to start planning a trip…maybe Ragnar Cape Cod?!?
By dnardi710 on September 24, 2014 at 12:10 PM
Not that I needed an excuse to visit Cape Cod!! Congrats – what an exciting opportunity for you!! It sounds perfect for you! And the building you work in is gorgeous!

Thanks Emily! And you definitely need to check out some of the races on Cape Cod – there are a lot of great ones!
