A Quick School & Life Update!

You may have noticed that over the past few weeks I’ve really only been posting one blog post a week in addition to my “Weekly Training Recaps”…let’s just say life has gotten BUSY!

I figured I’d share a quick update on what I’m currently up to!

If you’ve been reading Live, Run, Grow for awhile you probably know that a couple of years ago I left a full time position doing event presentation in professional sports to go back to school.

I started off doing a yoga teacher training program and then began taking the prerequisite classes I need to apply to a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.  Because my degree is in Mass Communications and I don’t have a background in sciences there are about 12 pre-requisites classes I need to complete (Bio, Chem, Physics, Math, Psychology, etc.) to apply.

So back to the lack of recent blogging…

I’m currently working full time as a Physical Therapy Aide, teaching 3 yoga classes a week, taking 1 in person class (chemistry) and 1 online class (exercise physiology).  On top of that I am doing my best to keep up with my running and my personal yoga practice.

Let me tell you, it sure feels like A LOT.  And unfortunately my poor little blog has been a bit neglected!

Most days I feel like a hamster that just can’t manage to get off their little hamster wheel – the days just all blend together!

Tuesday and Thursday are my longest days, I teach yoga starting at 7am, then go straight to work until 6pm followed by the pleasure of sitting in chemistry class from 6:30-9:30pm.

The good news is while my day-to-day schedule can feel very overwhelming, I’m beginning to feel like my end goal of a DPT program is almost in sight.  By the end of this summer I will (hopefully!) be at the point where I can apply to DPT programs for a fall 2016 start (unfortunately a year later than I had originally planned!).  I still have 3 classes to take over the next year and have to study for and take the GRE’s, but I feel like once my applications are submitted it’s really just a waiting game to see if I get in!

It’s also been really great to be working in a Physical Therapy setting – it definitely has me looking forward to this being my future career!

I’m especially really excited about the opportunities to combine yoga with physical therapy – in fact I’m taking a full day workshop on exactly that topic tomorrow and I can’t wait!

Just a quick update on all I have going on and why my blogging has been a bit sporadic!  Hopefully all this hard work will payoff and this crazy idea of going back to school will all be worth it in the end!

Any time management tips for when you’re feeling overwhelmed?
How do you make “you” time when you’re busy?

  1. Just keep tackling things in manageable amounts Dani! It sounds like you’re so passionate about everything you’re doing which helps! Although I don’t know if it’s the most efficient way to do things… when I’m overwhelmed with work or home, I cross off a bunch of smaller things before tackling bigger ones so at least I feel productive :). Of course, if deadlines are involved, scheduling time for specific tasks helps me.

As for “me” time, I just figuring that out now…. working opposite shits from my husband and having three young kids at home, it’s hard to fit it in while still keeping the laundry clean and everything “running”…lol I have a wonderful husband who sacrifices his sleep time during the week so I can get a run in before he goes to bed and I take over as mom… and on the weekends, it’s anybody’s guess! I showed up at my oldest’s opening day of softball yesterday very sweaty after an early spin class!

    • Oh my gosh, I have no idea how you get it all done with 3 kids! I am doing my best to keep up with everything I have on my plate, but unfortunately recently I keep feeling like I bit off more than I can chew! Oh well, just got to keep plugging away I guess!

  2. Good luck with everything! I thought about grad school before I moved to Texas (well, moving to Texas was a result of that thought) but I realized I wasn’t ready for school, but still needed to change things up. I also know if I go back to school, it’ll be to change my career path.

    • Thank you! Changing careers is tough! I wish I had a better idea of what I wanted to do when I went to college originally, but how the heck do people know what they want to do at 18?!?

  3. You have such a busy schedule right now. It’s great you are managing everything and hopefully Sept. 2016 will come soon so you can started in your program!

  4. I feel ya! I work full time and go to school full time for my doctorate. then add in traveling, racing, training and it gets hectic very fast. my weds are insane witha 545 am wakeup so I can drive to work, get a quick workout at the gym, work from 8-4 and then have class from 4-10. I just super schedule my days and use all of the time I have to get things done. i made a list of what I find important and schedule things in based on that

    • Ugh, it sounds like you are just as busy as I am – it’s tough! I am trying so hard to make lists and stay organized the best I can, let’s hope it’s enough and I don’t lose control of everything!

Leave a Thought!
