So we’ve made it through Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, but have you heard of Giving Tuesday??
Giving Tuesday is a global day for giving back and as it turns out, runners are a pretty generous group!
While the first thing that may come to mind is pulling out your checkbook or credit card, I thought I’d share some #GivingTuesday ideas that are running related and aren’t necessarily a monetary donation!
Got Sneakers?
Consider donating used sneakers to Mission 29.2, an organization that supports the education needs of children in developing communities using organized runs to inspire personal achievement and increase community transformation.
Each year Mission 29.2 organizes trips to Haiti & the Bahamas, which I’d LOVE to go on one day (you can read more about their missions HERE!), but until then I’ve been sending them my gently used sneakers to bring and distribute on their trips!
To donate your sneakers or learn more about Mission 29.2 contact Shannon Croom at jscroom@hotmail.com
(*Also be sure to check & see if your local running store collects sneaker donations!)
Got Medals?
A lot of people “do it for the bling”, but if you’re not one of them, why not consider donating your medals to Medals4Meddle?
Medals4Mettle’s mission is to provide an opportunity for endurance athletes and runners to pay it forward by enabling the gifting and awarding of earned medals to others who demonstrate similar mettle, or courage, as they face life’s challenges.
Click HERE for more information on donating your medals.
Got Time?
Consider donating your time and running with one of these organizations:
Back on my Feet – an organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness
Girls on the Run – which aims to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running
The Monster Milers – a great group in Philly that provides daily running adventures for shelter dogs waiting for their forever homes! (*check to see if a shelter by you has a similar program!)
Great post Danielle. I have two pair sneakers in the garage to donate and will send to your recommended group. I love Girls on the Run and Stride and will be a part of the Stride program again this spring.
Thanks Pam! I’m hoping to go on one of their trips one day, but until then I’ll keep sending them my sneakers – I know they’re much appreciated!
oh I have like 3 pairs of sneakers just sitting around. I will look into that! thanks!
