Can you believe that three years ago today I published my first blog post?! It’s amazing how quickly time goes!
I began blogging shortly after I ran my first race – the 2011 Wine & Dine Half Marathon…
…I’ve always thought of my blog as sort of a personal journal that just happens to be open for others to read. I enjoy recapping my race experiences, documenting my training, sharing running information and just having a place to write (as a communications/ journalism major who works in event management I don’t get to do as much writing as I’d like!).
Since I began running about 3 and a half years ago I’ve run 5 marathons, 14 half marathons, over a dozen shorter distance races and this year I ventured WAY out of my comfort zone and completed 2 sprint triathlons – all things just a few years ago I could only have dreamed of doing, but you know what they say…
In addition to accomplishing so many goals I am incredibly proud of, I have met countless wonderful people through running and blogging that I feel fortunate to call friends (yes I’m talking about YOU!).
To celebrate I’ve decided to move up a giveaway that I had been planning on including in my upcoming Runner’s Holiday Wishlist post (but stay tuned for some additional discounts & giveaways in that!).
This giveaway is PERFECT to celebrate an anniversary where I’m looking back on my 3 years of running, because it’s a great way to preserve race day memories!
I have to admit, I’m pretty picky when it comes to shirts (for running and in general), so I pretty much never wear race shirts.
But what to do with all of them??
Make a blanket of course!
I had always had it in the back of my head that I’d eventually have all my my race shirts made into a quilt, I just needed a) to collect enough shirts and b) find a reasonably priced t-shirt to quilt option! (Because let’s be honest, I can’t even sew a button on to anything, so I’m sure as heck not making myself a quilt!)
Enter Project Repat!
I had recently seen a few friends posting pictures of these amazing t-shirt blankets and figured it was about time I dig out all my race shirts and get one made for myself!
I contact Project Repat to let them know I was planning on including them on my Runner’s Holiday Wishlist and they generously offered to provide a giveaway for $100 towards having a t-shirt blanket made!
And not only that, if you don’t win the giveaway (or if you want to order your blanket before the winner’s announced!), they’ve provided me with a discount code for EVERYONE to get 20% off their order (info at the end of the post) – how great is that!
Project Repat isn’t just a great way to upcycle your race shirts (or any shirts!), but you’ll actually be helping the environment and the economy too – just check out this great graphic that really explains the impact of a Project Repat blanket:
So interesting, right?! Oh, and did you notice they use PolarTec fleece to back the blankets? How cozy does that sound!
Basically all you have to do is place your order. Send them your shirts. And voila – a few weeks later a beautiful comfy blanket lands back on your doorstep!
Since I’ve just started my Project Repat process (I placed my order the other day and am just boxing up my shirts!), my friend Carlee who has a Project Repat blanket offered to let me post a picture of her finished product so you can see how amazing they come out!
I’ll be sure to post pictures & updates as I send out my shirts and get my blanket back, but in the meantime, are you ready to order your own Project Repat blanket??
Here’s how to enter to win $100 off a Project Repat blanket:
- Leave a comment letting me know – Whats your favorite way to preserve race day memories? OR What event is your favorite race shirt from?

(**Although I’ve been blogging for 3 years I have yet to switch over to a self hosted blogging platform, so unfortunately I can’t host a Rafflecopter giveaway right on my site – hopefully one day soon, but for now you’ll have to take a detour to enter!**)
This giveaway will be open until Thursday, November 27th at midnight at which time a winner will be randomly chosen and notified.
And if you don’t want to wait for the giveaway winner to be announced and want to get your order in on time for the holidays (shirts must be sent to them by December 1st!), then use discount code “repatlrg” for 20% off your order!
Thank you for stopping by (and coming back!) and here’s to another year of Living, Running and Growing!
**Disclaimer: I have not received any compensation from Project Repat for this post, I reached out to them to let them know I was planning on including them on my Runner’s Holiday Wishlist post and they very generously offered a giveaway and discount code for Live Run Grow readers!**
I’ve been wanting to get a quilt made for my college and running shirts (2 quilts haha). Thanks for sharing info about Project Repat!
Happy blogiversary! 3 years! Woohoo!
And this quilt is a great idea! Except I don’t know that I would ever have enough shirts…I love half of them, and well, can do without the other half. Maybe I’d have enough for a lap blanket, or I just need to do more races with horrible shirts! lol
Yeah, if I liked the shirts I’d have a harder time having them made into a blanket, but I just don’t wear them, they never really fit me right!
I don’t have enough shirts for it, and I do end up wearing them. Maybe I’ll save them when they do start wearing out, and by that time I could have enough for a blanket.
Happy blogiversary!!!! Wait, is that even a word? Congrats on your big day! And am I the only person who actually WEARS all of her race shirts? I must be a total run dork or soemthing….
Haha, no I’m sure I’d wear some of they fit me better, I just never like the way they fit!
Happy blogiversary! 🙂 Project Repat sounds awesome!! My mom just recently had a blanket made through them and I can definitely attest to the coziness of the finished project! I’m starting to realize that I have way more race shirts than I know what to do with, and making a blanket through Project Repat is what I’d love to do with them all! I think my favorite race shirt is from my very first race, the Ras na hEireann USA; it’s a cool combination of colors, and it’s my first ever race shirt so it has a special place in my heart 🙂
I’m so glad to hear your moms blanket came out so good – I can’t wait to get mine!
Applause for three years! 😀
I have all my bibs and medals pinned to my cubical wall at work. Cheers me up enormously! And hopefully my coworkers don’t notice that sometimes I spin my chair around and gaze at them…
I’ve seen your pictures of them hanging at your cubicle, I love that!
I’ve been considering making a quilt out of my shirts for a long time but let’s be honest, I have incredibly shabby production skills and a lack of attention to detail that would make it come out pretty crooked so this would be a great viable alternative…
Seriously, I’d never have the patience to do this on my own even if I could sew!
Happy Blogiversary!!! Amazing how time flies, doesn’t it? I love the idea of a race shirt quilt. I’ve already given away SO many of my shirts and only kept my favorites, but I probably still have enough for a quilt. Really, race directors need to start giving out things other than shirts!
I agree, I’d love something other than a shirt, but then again I’m glad I have so many to turn into a quilt!
I have a drawer full of race t-shirts (that I do often wear) and another drawer full of bibs and medals. I want to figure out a way to display everything so I can see them more often because I do love racing and these items bring me so much pride seeing my accomplishments!
Yes, those medals need to be somewhere better than a drawer (like a medal rack which I may or may not have a discount code for in my Runner’s Holiday Wishlist post next week!). Bibs I still haven’t quite figured out what to do with either…
YaY for Blogiversaries! I’ve been meaning to get a blanket made, this would be the perfect time to do it.
Happy Blogiversary Danielle! I can’t believe I have only been running 4 years. It went so fast from Oct. 2010 when I thought I would run Princess and here we are still running. I have made a tee shirt quilt, but have a huge stack of shirts that could go in another!
Cool idea with the running shirts! My wife always steals my race shirts 😦
Happy Blogiversary! You and I have been running for just the same amount of time, and I too have accumulated a decent amount of shirts that I’m not quite sure what to do with… Some I like, but some are big or unflattering (and some are just plain ugly — some of my running buddies and I joked that we should have an “Ugly Race Shirt” party at Christmastime), and a quilt would be a great way to get use out of them and commemorate the races! I also have a scrapbook where I keep my bibs and pics from the races — I’m a bit behind on this, but I figure I’ll catch up during the cold winter months when I don’t want to venture outside.
Oh my gosh, an ugly race shirt contest would be AWESOME! Maybe we should hold a virtual one where everyone has to submit photos of their ugliest race shirts…hmmm…
I love to make shadow boxes of my favorite races- or mile stone races. Typically I just pile them up in my closet. I have every intention of making a quilt, or getting one made because that would just be awesome.
I have a drawer full of t-shirts that I’ve been wanting to have made into a blanket!! Typically I put my “big” race in a photo book for that year. Although I think I’m at least 2 (almost 3 now) years behind!
Yeah I kept a scrapbook for my entire first year of running, after that it’s sort of trickled off…now i look at my blog as my “scrapbook!” I just need to figure out something to do with all my race bibs!
Happy blogiversary! I have a TON of t-shirts, and Ben has even more than me. I hope to eventually make t-shirt quilts for both of us, but I wouldn’t say no to a little help from Project Repat 😉
I love this! I love saving all of my race bibs and have a ton of race shirts that I never have enough time to wear! A blanket would be oh-so cozy and PERFECT. Happy Blogiversary! ❤
What an awesome giveaway. I have tons of race shirts I would love to make a quilt with. A great way to remember many race days!
I hope this doesn’t double post. My favorite shirt right now is from Expedition Everest Challenge earlier this year. I was so happy when RunDisney finally came out with female sizes and I love that I can actually wear the EEC regularly instead of dumping it in a box in my closet.
I agree, now that there are women’s fit shirts there are a few I’d wear…the men’s/ “unisex” ones look terrible on me though!
I’m also saving my race shirts in hopes of having a quilt made (i have one made of all my college shirts, and love it)
I have yet to find a perfect way the display all my medals.
My favorite shirt by far has been my Dopey Challenge!
