A Pain in the Neck – Update

So if you read my Pain in the Neck post last week I’m sure it’s no surprise that my workouts were completely non-existant.

I pretty much spent Tuesday through Saturday totally out of commission due to some crazy muscle spasms in my neck, shoulders and upper back.  After 3 days of my activity being limited to lying on my moms floor and moving as little as possible, I finally got a prescription for a stronger muscle relaxer and pain killer and within hours I could feel the spasms begin to loosen slightly.

I spent most of Saturday sort of out of it from all the medication, but by Sunday I moved to only taking the pills at night before bed so I could drive and didn’t have to deal with the side effects.

Right now I’d say I have about 80-85% of the range of motion back in my neck and (thankfully!) the constant pain is gone, it really only hurts when I move it too much in one direction, so hopefully I’ll be back at 100% soon!

I obviously don’t have any workout pictures from last week, but I thought some of you might enjoy a few pictures I took while I was laying on my moms floor (sounds exciting right?!?).

If you’ve ever had a pet you’ve probably noticed that they can definitely sense when something is wrong, when you’re sick, hurt or upset…well Madison was the most amazing little nurse for me last week when I wasn’t feel great – she literally didn’t leave my side!

I know I’m bias, but seriously, how cute is she??!

  1. She’s so cute! Glad you’re neck is getting better! I’ve had the EXACT same issue in the same spot many, many times. I’ll wake up, and BAM, can’t move my neck. It happens every few months and is SO frustrating. I’ve changed my computer/monitor situation (since I spend all day in front of it), which seems to have helped. Knock on wood, it hasn’t happened in 8 months. Hope you’re one and done!

  2. I’m so sorry you had a crummy week off! Not my idea of a good time. Having to resort to drugs for help is also pretty serious. I heard once from my chiropractor, it’s not what you did the day before your injury started, it is what you did 3 days before that sparked it. It could be something as simple as that being your dominant side and you hold your water bottle with that arm or you work and use that arm for your mouse etc. I hope you feel better! Warmer days are coming still!

    • Thanks Pam. I’m not sure what the heck caused it, but if I had to guess I’d just say it was stress…I’ve always had some trouble with that area on my neck/back and I think a few stressful days just got the best of it unfortunately!

I’ve actually never been to a chiropractor, you go regularly, right? I’d be interested to hear about it.

      • I do go regularly but only for my back. I haven’t done any work with my neck. Just my shoulder blade area. I get nervous about neck adjustments. But I swear by my doctor. He is awesome and he is also a runner so he knows my issues.

  3. OMG she is sooooooo cute! I love your dog! I’m sure you already have someone, but if you ever need a dogsitter! …I promise I won’t try and keep her…for long!

And glad you’re feeling better! 🙂

    • Haha, you should totally come over sometime and meet Madison! I warn you though, she is amazingly snuggly once you get to know her, but it does take her a little bit to warm up to meeting new people! The good news is once you’re in you’re in and you’ll be bff’s!

  4. Glad you’re starting to feel better! I hate it when some random pain/injury comes out of nowhere and completely sidelines you…so frustrating. Oh, and dogs TOTALLY can sense when something is wrong. No question about it. She is TOO FREAKIN’ CUTE!
