I hope you all don’t mind a recycled post – this was first published last New Year’s Eve, but it’s one of my favorites and I thought it would be appropriate to re-visit as we celebrate the anniversary of Madison coming to live with us!
This is a love story. It’s the story of how we fell in love with Madison…
Seven years ago on a snowy Christmas Eve Jason and I were looking online at puppies. It’s not that we were in the market for a puppy, but really…who doesn’t love to look at pictures of puppies!
That’s when we saw her. And it was love at first sight.
Her name was Pebbles, but we recognized her right away, it was Madison! (Just like a lot of people have their kids names picked out, we knew one day our dog’s name would be Madison…we just had to find her!). We showed her to our family and immediately sent an e-mail to find out more about her!
Over the next few days we e-mailed back and forth with the contact where Pebbles/ Madison was living at the time and then all of a sudden the e-mails stopped coming. We began to get frustrated because we just knew she belonged with us, we hoped that her human contact was just busy with the holidays and that we’d hear back again after the New Year.
And then…
On New Year’s Eve Madison showed up at our house in a basket (escorted by my parents!). To say I was surprised would be an understatement – as I’m sure you can tell by the look on my face! (The other dog in the photo welcoming Madison is my sister’s dog Roxie.)
Even harder was that now I had to keep the surprise for Jason! He was on the road for work and wouldn’t be home until shortly after midnight, so a few hours later we got to do the surprise all over again and introduce him to Madison.
Jason was just as surprised as I was, but we were both so excited! She is without a doubt the best present we’ve ever gotten and I couldn’t imagine not having her as part of our family.
And again, because who doesn’t love to look at pictures of puppies here are some of our favorite pictures of Madison as we celebrate her 7th anniversary of coming to live with us!
What a great story! Madison is such a unique (quirky?) dog, it’s only fitting she had a great way to first meet you guys 🙂
Haha, yup, she certainly is quirky! Makes her all the more special : )
AAAHHHHHHHH I LOVE this post!!! So cute! The expression on your faces – both yours by yourself and then yours and Jason’s are priceless and fantastic! I hope I get to meet that sweet pup someday 🙂
Haha, thanks! Trust me, we were shocked! Best surprise ever though, couldn’t imagine not having her as part of our family : )
oh my god I miss my dog…

I LOVE Madison! Such a great story. Cruising PetFinder or any other dog adoption site is SOOO dangerous. I feel like it always ends with somebody getting a dog. That’s how I found Cinderella!
Thanks Karla! And yes, very dangerous! We had been contemplating getting a dog but pretty much decided we were both too busy, but when we saw her we knew she was ours! : )
Absolutely adorable! Petfinder is dangerous. As I get ready to bring two feline babies into my world, I just want to adopt every cat I see on Petfinder. It’s really not good for me.
Awww, congrats on your two new family members! And I totally understand, I started looking at PetFinder the other day and had to stop myself!
As a dog lover, I get sappy seeing adorable puppy/dog photos Madison is lucky to have such a great home. Happy New Year and Madison day!
Thanks Pam! And I love that, from now on New Years Eve is Madison Day!
Why did this make me cry (happy tears). What an awesome Love Story! Thank you for reposting. Happy New Year!
Awww…I’m sorry it made you cry, I get teary eyed whenever I re-read it too, it was such a great surprise!
I remember commenting on this story last year. Too cute! Both the story and Madison. I have a MAJOR case of puppy/dog envy.
