I can’t believe there is only one month to go until the Marine Corp Marathon!
This will be my 3rd full and 1st non-Disney marathon!
Training through the summer for a fall marathon was definitely tough and I really struggled through some of the long runs with the heat and humidity. I have to admit I didn’t follow a training plan as closely as I would have liked, and I didn’t really do much speed work, but I got in an 18 miler, a 20 miler last weekend and I have another (final!) one next weekend. I feel ready and I’m definitely excited!
I’m planning on heading down to DC on Friday morning with my mom and we’re staying at a hotel not too far from the finish line. We’ll probably try to get to the expo on Friday afternoon.
For Saturday morning I registered for the MCM Runners bRUNch:
“The bRUNch is a 5k warm up run led by MCM staff along the Mall concluding at the Marine Corps War Memorial, where tens of thousands of runners will pass under the iconic MCM finish arch the next day. bRUNch will be served adjacent to the finish line, in the VIP tent, with a talk led by Bart Yasso, Chief Running Officer of Runner’s World.”
I figured since the 5k run goes by a lot of the monuments and DC sites it would be a good opportunity to take some pictures since I probably won’t take many during the race itself, plus Bart Yasso is always entertaining and I’d love to hear him speak!
Saturday afternoon we’ll probably do some sight seeing, go out to dinner and make it an early night before the race.
I’m looking forward to meeting up with my runDisney friend Christine who will be running her first marathon! We realized that we’ve both been training at the same pace, so we’re going to try to start the race together and see how it goes – I’m sure it’ll be nice to have each other for support along the way!
I do have a time goal in mind, but I also know it’s a tough course so I’m not going to get too attached to that number. Ideally my overall goal is to PR, which considering my other 2 marathons have been at Disney where I’ve stopped for pictures along the way, should be an attainable goal, but anything can happen during 26.2 miles!
Is anyone else running MCM?
Have you run MCM in the past? I’d love to hear about it!
I hear SO many great things about the MCM!
Me too! I heard it’s a tough course and the weather can go either way that time of year in DC, but I’m sure it’ll be great!
It absolutely will be! 🙂
I ran the MCM in 2005, and I’m pretty sure they’ve changed the course a little since then, but it’s a very well-organized race. Enjoy every bit of it!!
Thanks! I know they changed the course a little bit this year so it’s just a touch flatter at some points. Glad to hear it’s so well organized!
So excited for you and the 5K bRUNch with Bart Yasso should be really fun!
Yes, for the cost ($35!) I definitely thought it was worth doing!
I’m starting to hear Rapunzel’s voice in my head yelling, “this is going to be the best run EVER!” It’s not Disney but that’s actually not bothering me at all, oddly enough.
Same! I’m just as excited about this as I usually am for a Disney race, I’m looking forward to a more “traditional” race experience!
Really excited for you. I’ve only heard great things about the race. I feel the same way about my marathon training. It was tough this summer. I’m used to running a Nov, not Oct marathon. Didn’t realize how much of a difference with the heat a month would make! But I’m sure you’ll PR in your first non-Disney race. Yes, anything can happen, but you certainly have it in you!

Can’t wait to hear all about this race! I’m sure it will be amazing! I’d love to try it (especially since I should conquer a full before attempting Goofy) but I’m just so hesitant about races that involve the bulk of the training through the summer, especially after the disaster that was training for the Dumbo this year. But I digress…you are going to rock at this race! Have fun!
Yeah, the training was tough, but the good news is (hopefully!) it’ll be cooler come race day vs. Disney where you train through the winter and then it’s 80 on race day!
If you’re not in a rush to get to Goofy I honestly think Disney is such a great marathon to do for your first.
I’m running the MCM for the first time and it will be my first marathon too. Very excited but also nervous! But we’re going to do great!
Yeah! So exciting! I’ve heard so many great things about the Marine Corp Marathon, I can’t wait! Good luck and let me know how it goes!
Yay! How exciting its almost here!! The bRUNch sounds really fun. I’m excited for you!
Thanks! I’m getting really excited, it can’t come soon enough!
