Well the first of my two back to back weekend trips is over and I had SUCH a great time in Philadelphia!
I got there Saturday morning (New Year’s Eve day) and since my husband wasn’t going to be getting into town until that night I decided to go out and explore the city! I walked around the Rittenhouse Square area and then up to Reading Terminal Market which I just LOVED! Especially when I found a stand with barrels of pickles (I LOVE PICKLES!):
Then on my way back to the hotel I found the LOVE statue:
New Year’s Eve was pretty low key, my husband and I went out to a nice dinner and then we went back to our hotel and relaxed since we were both exhausted!
New Year’s day Jason headed off to work and I was supposed to meet up with a co-worker at 10am for a run. At 9:55 though I got a “I’m not gonna make it” text…so I was on my own! I was planning on a 3 mile run, but I enjoyed the change of scenery and running along the river so much I kept going and ended up doing a little over 5 miles. I even ran up the Rocky steps (honestly, how could I go for a run in Philadelphia and NOT run up the Rocky steps?!?):
It was New Year’s Day, so of course in Philadelphia that means I ran into the Mummer’s Parade, which was…interesting? I actually asked several people that identified themselves as Mummers what a Mummer was and what the Mummer’s Parade was and none of them could explain it to me! The best I got was, “it’s just the parade the Mummer’s do on New Year’s Day!” Oh well, I still don’t get it but it was definitely entertaining!
That afternoon I went over to the historical district to see the Liberty Bell:
…and then I headed over to Citizen’s Bank Park for one of the things I was most excited about on this trip…skating on the Winter Classic ice! (and yes, Jason has shorts on, it was like 55 degrees out!)
That night we met up with some co-workers and my sister and cousins (who came down for the Winter Classic game) for dinner and then it was off to bed to get ready for the main event of the weekend…
Check back for my Winter Classic game post tomorrow!
ya gotto love Jason with shorts on at the Winter Classic…. Dad
