I’ve never been someone who makes New Year’s Resolutions (probably because I am also not someone who would ever keep New Year’s Resolutions). This year though, with 2012 just a few days away, I’ve been thinking a lot about the things that I’d like to accomplish in the coming year.
Deciding to run a half marathon and then sticking to a training schedule and actually finishing the race was one of the only times in recent memory that I can remember setting a personal goal for myself and actually following through with accomplishing it. Previously I was much better at coming up with big ideas of things I wanted to do and then…well then that was about it. I never actually did any of them. In fact, I probably proclaimed that I wanted to run a marathon at least once a year for the past decade (which I’m sure had my husband rolling his eyes behind my back), but 2011 is the first time I ever actually went out for a run!
So, 2012 will be the first year I actually set some New Year’s goals for myself!
I read a great blog post at California Yoga Sport on Goal Setting Strategies – definitely worth checking out! I love their ideas for creating a vision book or board to help visualize your goals for the year. I don’t know that I am going to have time to create something quite that involved, but that’s ok, because that’s what the “GROW” page here on my blog is for!
I like the suggestion on the California Yoga Sport blog to choose one of each of the following when setting your goals:
- something you have always wanted to try
- something that scares you or that you fear
- something that incorporates building a new skill
- something that benefits others
- something that you have to work hard for
Over the next few days I’m going to try to take some time to think about my “GROW” goals for 2012 and I’ll be back to share them!
