Well I’m glad my first triathlon is behind me and I got past that fear of all the unknowns that come with trying something new, but I can definitely say it didn’t go quite as well as I had planned.
I’m working on my recap now, but let’s just say my #1 takeaway that I’d pass on to anyone training for their first triathlon (which I read A MILLION TIMES on other people’s blogs and in training books, but of course did not do…) is DO AN OPEN WATER SWIM BEFORE RACE DAY!
Recap Coming Soon…
Congrats on finishing! Hey, you made it through the swim, didn’t you? But yes, training in open water makes a big difference. I was JUST telling that to someone who is doing their first tri and is very nervous about the swim. It’s all a learning process, right? ALL of my tris are!
Yup, I’m glad I got through my first one, but the swim certainly wasn’t the experience I was expecting! I really need to practice ocean swims more before my next one!
Hey, you didn’t get eaten by a shark. I call that a solid win.
That’s how I’m trying to look at it too.
Congrats on finishing, that should be your biggest take away.
Can’t wait for the recap.
Thanks! I’m happy with how it went overall, I was just a little surprised at the difficulty of the swim.
oh man I was afraid of that bit of advice, mostly bc I have no idea how to make that happen here!
Yeah, I kind of had the same problem which is why I never did one. I’ll be writing a lot about my issues with the swim in the actual recap, so maybe you’ll find that you’ll be ok without a test swim once I explain the issues I had…
Nice! I was following along on instagram. Congrats on getting it done! Now you can learn and get better in the future!
Exactly, I went into this one looking at it as a learning experience – I have 2 more this summer and now I know what I need to work on!
Congrats on finishing! Open water swimming frightens me. Glad you were able to finish and learn some new lessons for when (if?) you do another.
I signed up for the Sprint Series this summer so I at least have 2 more – 1 in July and 1 in September!
Congrats on finishing! Just think, next time will be that much better since you have that open water swim under your belt now.
Thanks Lisa! Definitely need to get in the ocean and swim a few times before the next one!
