Madison and the Goose

Madison briefly thought about chasing this goose…until she realized it was like twice her size!

Weekly Mileage –   10 miles

2014 Mileage – 199 miles

OVERALL

So I just looked at my overall mileage for this year and realized we’re in MAY and I’ve only run 200 miles!  Yikes! I have really been slacking on running since Dopey and my half marathon PR in March.

This week my goal is to sit down and put together training plans for my fall races (so far 3 half marathons and 1, possibly 2 full marathons) and get my butt back out there running more regularly – 10 miles a week just isn’t going to cut it any more!

Do you take an “off season” from running,

or do you run the same amount all year round??

  1. Love the picture of Madison contemplating the goose. My parents have a cat who was ready to defend his territory against the neighborhood’s flock of wild turkeys. They’re 5 times his size, at least.

    • Haha, yeah, I’m pretty sure she just had no idea what the heck it was, I don’t think she’s ever seen a goose before! And that’s one brave cat, turkey’s are scary!

  2. My mileage has been really low this year too. Sometimes I panic about it but then I realize that I’m still working out enough to be in semi-decent shape and I’m really enjoying doing other/new things this year.

    • Yeah, that’s true, I’ve been doing a lot of yoga and swimming so I’m sure I haven’t lost that much actual fitness, now I just need to get myself motivated to run!

  3. I definitely have an annual lull where I run about 10 miles a week, usually late winter. Then I’m raring to go again come spring. Sometimes it’s nice to give your body a break!

    • Haha, that’s exactly where I am right now…about 10 miles a week. After a fall marathon and Dopey I think it was just time to take a bit of a break.

  4. I normally would have a few lulls by May, but this year my calendar has been packed with races. So far 3 halves and 2 fulls in 5 months. I have a long break until my next half in early August so my mileage will taper down and swimming and other activities will be incorporated into my weekly workouts.

  5. Oh yes, be careful, geese are mean! I definitely take it easy for a bit after a big race. The last three years that’s been the Disney Marathon (and Dopey), but usually after a few weeks I get the itch to run again!

    • Yeah, I didn’t slow down much after Dopey since I was looking forward to my half in March, but I think since then I’ve sort of slowed down…time to pick it up again soon!

  6. Yep, sounds a lot like my total mileage for the year! I have SERIOUSLY cut back since Dopey and then the RnR full in March. I figure I’ll keep my mileage fairly low for another few weeks before I start building up my base again and tackling yet another round of marathon training for NYC! 🙂
