WALT DISNEY WORLD MARATHON WEEKEND – AFTER THE FINISH LINE

Almost immediately after I crossed the finish line and got my medal my cell phone started vibrating – it was Jason trying to figure out where I was.  I honestly could tell just by the sound of his voice how excited and proud he was of me and I couldn’t wait to see him and the rest of my family!

I met up with them by the race merchandise tent where we took some pictures:

…and then I ducked in to buy the “I DID IT!” shirt and pin (I was too nervous about finishing to buy it before the race at the expo!).  As I finished in the merchandise tent Lisa called, I had seen her right before I ran across the finish line so she knew I was done.  We took a few more pictures and made plans to see each other later that afternoon at her Healthy Disney meet up at Aloha Isle for a Dole Whip!

I went back to the hotel, took an ice bath (absolute torture but much needed!) and showered and then I headed to Epcot with my family to grab something to eat.  I was amazed at how good I felt considering I had woken up at 2:30am and just run longer than I had ever run before!  After lunch I had to say goodbye to Jason who had a flight back to New York that afternoon.  I still can’t put into words how much it meant to have him there, it was such an incredible unexpected surprise for him to be able to come down for the race last minute and I am so glad I was able to share this experience with him!

After he left I went to the Magic Kingdom to meet Lisa where got got Dole Whips and took pictures with our medals and “I run for Dole Whips” shirts:

Who would have thought there were other people out there as obsessed with Disney, running and Dole Whips as I am!?!

Unfortunately I had to fly back to New York Monday morning and go straight to work, but I was going back to New York a different person…I was a marathoner!

I can honestly say that is something I NEVER thought I would be able to say, but I did it!  And not only that, I can not wait until next year to take on the Goofy Challenge!

  1. Love the pics!

Again, it’s really fun to read about the event in your perspective, even though we talked about it. I’m so glad you started your blog. Just think – when you train for the Goofy next year, you can read all of these posts to prepare.

    • I’m glad I started it too! I love being able to share my experiences with my friends and family and like you said it’s a great resource for me to look back on during my training!

Went for my first post-marathon run today, my legs feel a little tired for just 3 miles, but not too bad!
