40 DAYS AND NOT QUITE READY…

As of tomorrow there are just 40 days until my first full marathon and I have to tell you I am definitely getting nervous!

MARATHON COUNTDOWN!

I never really got nervous for the half marathon in October even though it was my first race ever, but I think that’s because I was really good about sticking to my training plan and even completed a 13.1 mile training run, so going into the race I knew I could do it!

I’m not exactly sure what I was thinking when I decided to train for a January marathon when Fall/ Winter is my busiest time  at work, but I definitely have not been keeping up with my training as well as I’d like to be.  In fact, I didn’t run AT ALL this past weekend since I ended up having to work long days both Saturday and Sunday, and this morning my bed just did not want me to get out of it any earlier than absolutely necessary to get to work…so that’s 3 days in a row with NO running at all!

I’m really trying to find the right balance between listening to my body telling me it’s exhausted and knowing I need to keep up with my training.  Hopefully I’ll get in my planned 20 mile training run this weekend – I think once I break the 20 mile mark I’ll feel a bit more confident.  I’m also hoping to try out some new “fuel” options I bought since I’m not sure I’ve found the right combination for race day yet.

While I didn’t get in a run today, I did do a lot of walking and got to spend the entire day outside for a live webcast event we put on at Wollman Rink in Central Park.  I still can’t believe it’s the end of November and it was 65 degrees out!

Oh, and I just ordered a Garmin running watch!  I had been thinking about getting one, but was hesitant to spend the money and then I got an e-mail from Amazon saying the Garmin Forerunner 405CX was on a one day sale for $149.99!  I’ve been happy using my iPhone and RunKeeper for my running GPS needs, but as my training runs get longer I’m concerned about the battery on my iPhone lasting through the marathon while using RunKeeper, listening to music and texting my family to try to find them along the way.

I’ll definitely save a lot of battery on my phone by not having to run the GPS!

It’s supposed to get here on Friday, just in time for my weekend long run, so I’ll let you know what I think!

  1. Ugh I can’t believe race weekend is so close either! 😦 And you’re going to love everything about the Garmin, I honestly don’t know what I did before it!

    • Hi Jenn! I can’t wait to try out the Garmin, for $150 I couldn’t pass it up even though I was going to ask for one for Christmas. Hopefully having a fun new piece of equipment will motivate me on my long run this weekend!
