NON-RUNNER IN TRAINING

I don’t want to go too far back and bore you with my training since it was several months ago now, but to say I was not a runner before I started training for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon would be an understatement. Not only was I NOT a runner, but I hated running!  I didn’t see the point, I thought it was incredibly boring.  Well that and I was out of breath after just a few minutes which did not make it very enjoyable.

When I decided to start training for a half marathon (you can read about why I was doing this in my previous post) I was literally starting from nothing.  I armed myself with a pair of new running sneakers and an app on my iPhone called GET RUNNING and on May 24th, 2011 I went out for my first run.  “Run” may actually be giving it a bit too much credit, it was one minute run/ walk intervals – but over the next few months I became a runner!

I went from nothing to 3 miles and eventually all the way up to 13.1 miles just in time for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon!

Be sure to stop back for recaps on the race and the Meet Up & Eat Up experience I got to participate in!

  1. I am just tuning in to your running journey – I am also blogging about a running quest, a little different from yours. Isn’t it amazing how quickly your body can adapt to running? Congrats on your half marathon and I look forward to reading more!
    Cheers,
