Weekly Training Recap

RECAP (10/14-10/20)

Monday – 75 minute yoga class

Tuesday – 3 miles (Marathon Sports Mashpee run club)

It’s dark when we run now so we’ve stocked up on our “night running” gear!

Night Running 1

Wednesday – 75 minute yoga class

Thursday –  none

So I actually got up early to run (thanks to Kellie!), but when I realized how dark it was at 5:45am I got a little too freaked out to go!  More on that in another post…

Friday – 3 mile run (Marathon Sports Pub Run!)

Our local running store holds the occasional “Pub Run” we basically all go out for a group run and then go to the bar next door and the running store (or sponsor if there was one at the run) buys pizzas and the first rounds of drinks!

Pub Run

Saturday – none

Sunday – 11 miles

Weekly Mileage –  17 miles

2014 Mileage – 561 miles

OVERALL

My 2 short runs during the week felt great, so I was really hoping for a good long run this weekend so I’d feel a little bit better about my brutal 20 miler last weekend, but no such luck.  My 11 miles felt sluggish and heavy, so frustrating!

Not totally running related, but we took Madison to the beach this week and she just loved it!  We took a ton of pictures, but this is one of my favorites…

Madison on the beachWorking on a post & I’d love your help:

What’s your best tip for running in the dark??

  1. I have a running hat with a blinking light on the back that I love, and a lot of reflective gear. I also always check in with someone else at home before I leave and give them a specific time to expect me back (or check in by text if no one else is home). I HATE running without some sort of background to distract me, but music blocks out too much noise, so I listen to audiobooks during dark runs – I can still hear cars, bikes, etc over the narrator.

  2. Please immediately go read my post I just posted. It is uncanny how we are thinking the same things. Nike just put out a whole bunch of really great (but stupidly expensive) glow in the dark running items!
I am not sure why but I have always felt that dark in the morning is safer than dark at night, even though I’m sure that is malarky. Anyway, so I usually wear as much reflective gear as I can and go in the morning (Though I have been out of this habit for a while now and am not sure if I will be able to get back in it)…
Can’t wait to read your post about this to get some good ideas!
P.S. I do love evening/dark runs around the holidays and looking at all the beautiful old Charleston homes decorated for Christmas!

Leave a Thought!
